I'm back with a fully working desktop. w00t!

God, I love my backup server.

It's like I haven't missed a beat. All my settings and everything are back. πŸ™‚

I should note, that the only thing I was able to recover off the machine was my unreal tournament maps and mods. Everything else was toast, and the machine was fully reinstalled from the ground up. 4 hours later, and I can't tell anything bad happened.

Windows?

heh, my desktop crashed, and while I'm downloading a copy of my distro on CD so I can see what happened to the drive, I installed XP on a server laying around here, just for the heck of it. Besides forgetting how to use windows (yes, I continually use the scroll wheel as a middle mouse button, and try to copy and paste using highlighting and the middle mouse button)

Anyway, I decide "I probably want to run windows update right away". Now I remember why I stopped running windows as my desktop OS.

Yea, our files and settings transfer wizard fails to perform its basic tasks.

Leave it to Microsoft to have such ridiculous bugs in their software. At least I know the drive corruption that my computer likely encountered running linux was probably due to a hardware issue from a long time ago that I've just been ignoring. (i.e. It was my own damn fault)

You know, I just realized, I'm a geek! πŸ˜‰

No, for real.

Like sometime last week, pointed out I have a 10BaseT transciever in my bathroom by the sink.

that and the other day, my battery died, and I was pissed that my car "wouldn't boot".

And, I've spent the last 4 days driving around finding access points, and plotting the damn things on a map.

It's terminal, and there's no cure.
