spam has been particularly heinous
psyduck:/home/paul# grep "result: Y" /var/log/mail.log|wc -l
21440
I've rejected 21440 spams on my BACKUP MX so far today
oh my god
Point of reference: my employer's mail relays blocked 2,100 spams across all the servers combined, and they have more active mail accounts than I do. Something weird is happening.
Oh, my gosh.
and 19827 of those spam messages are for supposed ED offers, I'm sure. heh
interesting focus by spammers
Unless the domain in question, I'm assuming telcodata, got hit by the online media, this is mildly entertaining. If I remember correctly, you do simple ehlo testing with Bayesian filters/points system?
Re: interesting focus by spammers
I think it's timmins – that's the one that gets habitually joejobbed and has been for at least 4 years running now.
I do two pass full runs of spamassassin. Reject at score of 15 + at smtp time, and then second pass uses user based rules rather than system rules, and flags for delivery to the spam folder at 5+.
There are a few custom rulesets that flag a huge majority of the most common spams nowadays that are hand written too.
